There’s been a bit of a change of plans. Tyler was supposed to meet us for two weeks of hunkering down to work on our various writing projects, but he got an offer to do the costumes on an incredible movie, and the shoot interrupts our planned dates, so Owen and I were open again. I had a bit of a vision, while laying by the pool of Le Meridien, of someone teaching meditation with waves in the background, and booked us tickets for Bali by way of Singapore. We met some older Thai guys who go on a trip every year to donate money or supplies to schools, so we are gonna grab dinner on a long layover in Bangkok with them, then pop down to Singapore to see a guy Owen used to work with and celebrate Chinese New Year with my boys, Josh and Cam (the canadians). I can only spend about 2 minutes at a time looking at Bali airbnb’s; the excitement is too much for me.
Chiang Mai has mostly been the search for the perfect pool table. Most have snooker pockets which are smaller, and it takes Owen and I forever to finish a game with. Last night we went to the North Gate Jazz Co-op, a hot spot for backpackers and locals. The crowd is too big for the bar and spills out onto the street, a man was holding his baby watching from the middle of the road at 11 o’clock at night. He almost got hit by a scooter and a tuk-tuk. Who am I to judge? The bands were incredible and the beers were cheap. Tonight Owen is performing and I get to go see where he’s played every Saturday night for the past 5 years. We are saving Pai for later now to prepare for our long haul trip, Singapore, Bali, Vietnam, then looping back to Chiang Mai. I still want to do the Ha Giang loop in the north and stop at the casino at Phu Quoc in the south, ideally in the custom suits we will be getting made.
For now, I will content myself with some thai green curry.
