Maxwell's Lost Again

learned lessons, unfollowed directions

Balinese Blues (January 27, 2023)

Yesterday we were meant to go to a beach club called Savaya to see a French DJ with a French guy we met. We woke up to pouring rain, and couldn’t imagine how the show would go on. An hour before the venue was scheduled to open, they posted an instagram story, “Even in paradise it rains. We have rescheduled due to flooding in Uluwatu.” Marooned at our villa, we read and wrote and sat in the pool beneath the downpour. I am hopeful the rain will stop sometime this weekend so we can explore Uluwatu and see another sunset, but things aren’t so bad. I may never return to Thailand, but I will find a way to come back to Bali. I feel I’m being robbed of a sunset every night it’s too overcast to see.

I have now purchased all my flights for the rest of my trip, my dates are set, my Korean e-visa has been approved. I will be in Tokyo for the super bowl; if any city shows it in the middle of the night, it has got to be Tokyo. I worry we will not have enough time for the Ha Giang loop in Northern Vietnam with Owen’s deadline to be back in Thailand creeping forward, but only time will tell. I hope the water stops today, but either way I will be in the pool.
