Maxwell's Lost Again

learned lessons, unfollowed directions

Twilight (Feb 11, 2023)

Ha Giang was the definitive high of my trip. It was overwhelming; days sitting on the back of that scooter and watching it all go by, evenings sitting and drinking and miming with locals at night. Plastic rainproof outfits, crags climbing and descending. The cold swimming hole and the cheap cheap cheap beer. I have never felt so humbled by a landscape, so young and so old and so small in the grand scheme, but so lucky to see something so grand.

I am now sitting back in Hanoi with Owen and saying see you later. I am going to have to come back to it for a full recollection.

I decided I couldn’t come to Asia and reread Noble House without seeing Hong Kong. I am sitting in Hong Kong. I pushed off Tokyo for one day, I might push back another so I can see Macau. I have a mere two weeks left and have never been so happy for a trip to be nearly but not yet over. I am exhausted and miss having a closet but I have loved the time changes and the two day routines and the new friends and strangers. I originally planned on a more sedentary trip with more time in front of a laptop but I’m glad it happened this way. I feel like I can turn the page on this side of the world for a long time.
